Christopher Davis

Christopher Davis is Syensqo’s Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Executive Committee. He has held this position since the company was established in December 2023. In this role, he was pivotal in the company’s successful listing on the Euronext Brussels exchange, and has overseen major refinancing and inaugural bond issuances in both the US and European markets.

Chris has over 20 years of leadership experience in multinational organizations within the natural resources, mining, industrial, and chemicals sectors. He has guided major financial transactions, improved financial performance, and led SAP financial implementations in more than 50 countries.

Prior to joining Syensqo, Chris was Chief Financial Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at Orica Limited, where he led a global team of over 500 employees, drove significant balance sheet improvements, executed major refinancing and equity raising initiatives, and developed Orica’s net zero 2050 sustainability strategy. Chris also held several senior finance roles at Orica, including Vice President Group Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the Mining Services Division.

Before that, Chris spent over a decade at Anglo American Plc, one of the world’s largest mining companies. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of its Scaw Metals Group, where he led the divestment of global assets, restructured underperforming business units, and navigated the company through significant operational challenges. He also held the role of Chief Financial Officer at Scaw Metals Group and held senior finance and business analysis positions at Anglo American and Deloitte.

Chris is passionate about accelerating value creation through building strong and successful teams. He advocates for improved sustainability performance and transparency, viewing it as a strategic advantage in creating future-proof businesses and sustainable growth for all.
 

Chris holds Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) qualifications, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and completed the Chief Financial Officers Leadership Programme at Harvard Business School. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Treasury Management from the University of South Africa, a Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy, and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Natal.

Chris is a triple Australian, British, and South African citizen. He is fluent in English and Afrikaans, with basic proficiency in Flemish/Dutch and French.

His hobbies include scuba diving, golf, cycling and reading.
