Syensqo is a specialty chemicals company working at the intersection of science and innovation, with technologies enabling energy efficiency, lower carbon and recyclability in mobility, all the way across mobility sectors and healthcare. Sustainability is the backbone of how we innovate, invest, and create impact. By aligning our business with our One Planet priorities across climate neutrality, environmental stewardship, sustainable portfolio, and people in our communities, we enhance performance, manage risk, and create value, strengthening our competitive position worldwide.
In a rapidly evolving global landscape, we act decisively to remain compliant, competitive, and future-ready. As environmental pressures intensify and climate change-related risks grow, sustainability is an economic matter - shifting our strategy from compliance to competitiveness and from morality to materiality - and thus becomes a material imperative for businesses and economies.
Companies everywhere are adapting to new regulations, shifting customer expectations, and the physical impacts of climate change and resource constraints. But adaptability and resilience alone address only the symptoms. At Syensqo, we’re focused on tackling root causes like climate change and water scarcity to play our part in mitigating their impact. We aim to be carbon neutral in our operations by 2040, and as part of our environmental stewardship approach, we’ve committed to reducing freshwater withdrawal by 20% at our most water-stressed sites by 2030.
Our One Planet roadmap reflects this reality. It encompasses four interlinked priorities where we can make the greatest positive change: Climate, Environmental Stewardship, Sustainable Portfolio, and People & Communities.
Guided by our One Planet roadmap, we’re driving competitive sustainability - exploring and delivering innovation with lasting value for our customers and society while reducing our environmental footprint.
Effective sustainability strategies should deliver both financial returns and tangible solutions to critical challenges. By tackling issues such as sustainable mobility and end-of-life management, we accelerate the development and deployment of innovations that address environmental needs and create lasting value.
Sustainability as a business opportunity
For Syensqo, competitive sustainability is a strategy for long-term success.
Take energy use as one example: by shifting 75% of our industrial sites globally to renewable electricity, including 100% of our sites in the U.S. and China, we’re not only cutting Scope 1 & 2 emissions, but also reducing volatility in operational costs. These actions are part of our Star Factory roadmap, a unified global strategy to decarbonize our operations. They have contributed to us reaching the halfway mark to our 2030 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Thanks to our recent partnership in France, we’ve added a solar farm the size of 35 soccer fields, building on the 700 soccer fields of solar capacity already installed in the U.S.
Another example is our portfolio and innovation. Our customers are looking for solutions that perform better, last longer, and reduce their footprint. So we’re embedding circularity into how we design, develop, and deliver our products, leveraging recycled, bio-based, and reusable materials.
In 2024, 16% of our net sales came from products that enable circularity, durability, or renewable sourcing, a figure we aim to grow to 18% by 2030. We also offer solutions based on SPM, which represent 63% of our portfolio and support more sustainable use of resources. This approach helps our customers reduce waste and extract more value from materials over time.
More than 80% of our innovation pipeline was focused on sustainable solutions in 2024. From lightweight composites to bio-based polymers and recycled raw materials, we’re co-developing next-gen materials that help customers stay ahead of both regulatory shifts and market trends. Our portfolio includes solutions for consumer care, mobility, and electronics that support circularity and lower emissions. This expanding portfolio helps reduce the total cost of ownership for our customers while creating long-term shared value.
Our One Planet roadmap has actions and measurable indicators through 2030 which help to embed sustainability into the way we operate, innovate, and invest.
Sustainability at Syensqo is a driver of smarter, stronger, more future-ready business. Through our One Planet roadmap, we are proactively managing our footprint and accelerating our handprint, advancing sustainable innovation and creating value for our customers and partners.
The future of sustainability in business
A range of forces, from scientific innovation and collaboration to regulatory shifts and evolving consumer expectations, are shaping the future of sustainable business. Low-carbon technologies, AI-powered analytics, bio-based materials, and green chemistry are unlocking new ways to reduce footprint without compromising performance.
We also know that partnerships are essential. We are proud to collaborate across industries and value chains to accelerate sustainable transformation. Our Climate Pledge demonstrates this, where we’re working with 70 key suppliers, who account for around 80% of our purchased raw material emissions, to develop roadmaps that align with shared decarbonization goals. Already, 31 of those suppliers have signed up, representing 38% of our Scope 3 emissions.
Our mission is to create chemistry that empowers businesses to lead in both performance and progress. Whether you’re exploring new material innovations or seeking more resilient operations, we’re ready to partner with you. Every Syensqo explorer, across our 62 sites worldwide, is part of this mission because we know that meaningful change begins with everyday actions.
Our Sustainability Ambition
Sustainability is key to how we succeed in a changing world. Through our One Planet roadmap, we are advancing sustainable chemistry for the good of our customers, society, and the environment.
