We are looking for: 

  • We are seeking an HSE Engineer to play a critical role in safeguarding the health and safety of our people and ensuring environmental compliance across site operations. You will support and continuously improve our HSE Management Systems in line with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and Syensqo Life Saving Rules. 

  • In this role, you will develop, implement, and sustain HSE programs that reflect Syensqo’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence. You will also act as the Site HSE Representative and lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) initiatives—helping us pursue breakthroughs that advance humanity while protecting people and the planet.

  • Maintain expertise and regulatory awareness 
    • Monitor, interpret, and apply relevant local, national, and international HSE legislation and regulations.
    • Stay up to date on emerging HSE developments and assess applicability within your perimeter.
    • Collect, evaluate, and document best practices and lessons learned.
    • Maintain strong knowledge of HSE aspects related to site products, processes, and installations. 
  • Deploy Group and site HSE policies, programs, and tools 

    • Deploy and follow up on Group HSE policies, objectives, programs, and tools.
    • Review and propose site-specific adaptations and continuous improvements to Group programs.
    • Participate in the testing of new HSE tools/programs when the site is designated as a pilot site.
    • Deploy and track site HSE objectives, improvement programs, and tools.
    • Select and specify appropriate HSE tools, methods, and approaches. 
  • Drive continuous improvement in site HSE performance 

    • Anticipate planned changes (new/modified products, processes, or installations) and assess HSE implications.
    • Develop, draft, and maintain HSE procedures, instructions, and handbooks.
    • Implement HSE awareness and training programs for employees and contractors.
    • Create and distribute safety communications and materials (manuals, bulletins, videos, visual aids, etc.). 
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, and legislation 

    • Ensure operations and products comply with applicable HSE laws and Syensqo standards.
    • Investigate accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents/non-conformities; identify root causes and define corrective actions.
    • Verify correct use of HSE procedures and protective devices; intervene to eliminate unsafe conditions.
    • Perform regular inspections and ad hoc HSE visits.
    • Participate in HSE audits and contribute to identifying and recommending improvement measures. 
  • Provide HSE expertise and support to the site organization 

    • Deliver or support HSE training for employees and subcontractors.
    • Communicate relevant changes in HSE legislation and environmental requirements to stakeholders.
    • Provide HSE advice and expertise proactively and on request.
    • Support HSE-by-design in new equipment, facilities, and process projects. 
  • Reporting and HSE Management System coordination 

    • Apply and monitor HSE KPIs and performance monitoring methodologies.
    • Collect, analyze, and report HSE performance data to Group and GBU management.
    • Coordinate administrative activities related to the HSE Management System. 
  • Engage with authorities and external stakeholders 

    • Support negotiations with public authorities on HSE matters under the supervision of the Site HSE Manager.
    • Represent the site during external environmental and safety audits/inspections.
    • Prepare and maintain required HSE documentation for authorities, local communities, and other stakeholders. 
  • Documentation and records management 

    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date technical and HSE documentation and ensure proper archiving. 
  • Support and knowledge-sharing across the organization 

    • Inform and train colleagues on new methods, procedures, and techniques.
    • Support teams in resolving complex HSE issues.
    • Provide support for special assignments to the Site General Manager, as required.

You will bring: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety (or related field); Chemical Engineering preferred. 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HSE roles, ideally in the chemical or materials industry. 

  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and management systems (e.g., ISO 45001 / ISO 14001). 

  • Proven experience leading PHA sessions and acting as a site-level HSE representative. 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment. 

  • HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is a plus.
