New AI lab to translate research into industrial and environmental solutions
Syensqo and University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) today signed a partnership agreement at the UM6P campus in Benguerir, marking a new step in their collaboration to connect science, industry, and society. The initiative reflects a shared belief that Artificial Intelligence, when applied responsibly to real-world challenges, can drive the transition toward more sustainable and competitive industrial systems.
Built around three core domains - artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and sustainability – the collaboration brings together complementary expertise to turn research into practical applications. As part of this effort, Syensqo has inaugurated a dedicated office on the UM6P campus in Benguerir, creating space for its engineers and scientists to collaborate directly with UM6P’s researchers, doctoral candidates, and students. This proximity is designed to strengthen the connection between academic research and industrial priorities, while providing an environment conducive to experimentation, agility, and innovation-driven outcomes.
The collaboration also includes the launch of the Syensqo AI Lab, housed within UM6P’s innovation ecosystem and co-led by Lamiae Azizi, Professor at the College of Computing and Director of UM6P Accelerated Research Center in Ai, and Vincent Colegrave, Head of Syensqo.ai at Syensqo. The Lab is conceived as a translational space where scientific research and industrial challenges meet, bridging UM6P’s expertise in advanced AI and Syensqo’s experience in materials and chemical sciences. The new lab’s objective is to build next generation agentic AI technologies for chemistry and materials science, advancing both the next frontier of Generative AI systems development and next generation advanced materials for diverse industrial applications.
Beyond this initial project, the two institutions plan to broaden their collaboration into additional research and development fields, identifying opportunities through joint exploration between their scientific and technical teams. In addition to R&D, the collaboration also extends to executive training and student development programs. Both institutions will collaborate on initiatives that build technical expertise, leadership, and innovation skills, offering UM6P students hands-on experience in addressing real-world industrial challenges. This dimension reflects a shared commitment to preparing the next generation of scientists and engineers for emerging industrial and technological demands.

The signing ceremony brought together representatives from both institutions, alongside researchers, engineers, and students. Several UM6P students from the UM6P-College of Computing, future engineers and experts in AI who completed internships at Syensqo also shared their experiences, emphasizing how the collaboration offered hands-on exposure to advanced industrial and research environments.
This agreement marks a new phase in the ongoing collaboration between Syensqo and UM6P, both the first co-partners in Climate Impulse, the pioneering initiative led by explorer and environmentalist Bertrand Piccard to develop the first hydrogen-powered aircraft capable of flying non-stop around the world. This joint involvement embodies a shared conviction that science and innovation can generate solutions to global sustainability challenges when they are connected to experimentation, data, and industrial know-how.
