Implantable Spinal Cages

As Similar to Bone as Possible

Better than Metal for Spinal Cages

Spinal cages are implanted in the lumbar disc space to enable fusion of the adjacent bony surfaces of the vertebrae. Zeniva® PEEK, part of Syensqo’s Solviva® line of biomaterials, provides a modulus of elasticity very close to that of bone plus excellent toughness and fatigue resistance. It’s also ideal for direct injection of the graft while the inserter is still attached, resulting in a more complete fill when packing the disc space.

Together We Can Meet the Needs of the Industry

Due to an aging population, implanted Medical Devices are one of the fastest growing segments in the Healthcare industry. The orthopedic industry is continually challenging its supply partners to deliver biocompatible polymers that enable more innovative implantable device designs in many areas of the body. Our uniquely collaborative approach differentiates us and allows us to pool our capabilities and resources with our Partners to meet the important needs in the medical marketplace. Examples of devices used to help extend and improve quality of life, include:

  • Artificial hips and knees
  • Fracture repair (pins, screws, plates and rods)
  • Spinal fusion hardware (screws rods spacers and discs)
  • Heart pacemakers, defibrillators and stents

Multiple Solutions for Implantable Devices

Solviva® Biomaterials are four distinct Specialty Polymers providing many options for implantable devices used in orthopedics, cardiovascular, spine and many more. All Solviva® Biomaterials meet or exceed the highest industry standards in terms of quality and biological safety.

Zeniva® PEEK with Modulus Close to Bone

Zeniva® PEEK is one of the polymers belonging to the family of Solviva® Biomaterials that can be reinforced with medical-grade carbon fiber. It is manufactured in our dedicated ISO 13485 and CGMP-compliant facility and has distinct advantages versus metals for implants. When reinforced with medical-grade carbon fiber, the modulus of Zeniva® PEEK is very close to that of bone. This makes it an excellent candidate for structural, load-bearing implantable devices used in spine, hip and knee replacements. It can help implants minimize reduction in bone density by maintaining normal stress on surrounding bone tissue. It also eliminates the risk of allergic reactions to heavy metals.

Radiolucent for Total Visualization

Unlike titanium and metal alloys, Zeniva® PEEK is a radiolucent material, making it transparent to x-rays. This provides a significant advantage over metals, as it allows implants and fusions to be visualized by x-ray, CT scan, MRI or other imaging methods.
