At its heart, Climate Impulse is a human story, one of vision, courage, and collective determination.
It begins with Bertrand Piccard, a third-generation explorer, psychiatrist, and environmental advocate whose Solar Impulse project made history with the first solar-powered flight around the world. Alongside him is Raphaël Dinelli, an engineer, inventor, and former ocean racer who has spent years pushing the boundaries of sustainable aviation.
Together, they represent the pioneering mindset that Climate Impulse is built on, a mindset shared by the many people working behind the scenes to make this mission possible.
From scientists to technicians, from software developers to supply coordinators, it takes a global community of experts to bring this mission to life, and Syensqo is proud to be part of that community.
The people behind the technology
Climate Impulse is not just a technical achievement; it’s a collective human endeavor. At Syensqo, people across disciplines and geographies are contributing to this breakthrough, shaping the future of aerospace and clean energy.
In the Humanising Energy documentary series, produced by the World Energy Council in partnership with BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, Amandine Cuenca, Climate Impulse Technology Lead at Syensqo, shares how her work in materials innovation is helping shape the aircraft’s architecture, from lightweight composites to hydrogen fuel systems.
Collaboration is the heart of success. To create truly new ideas, we need a meeting of diverse minds and backgrounds. It’s amazing to work with…all the other partners [in this project]. Together, we can change an idea into a reality!

Composites For cleaner skies
Meet more members of the Syensqo team, who bring this mission to life, including Rob Blackburn, Olivia Hart, and John Allen. Each plays a different role in the development and delivery of flight-critical composite materials: Rob brings deep engineering insight to the design of composite solutions built for extreme conditions; Olivia ensures seamless coordination and precision across the materials supply chain; and John applies technical expertise on the ground, helping translate innovation into real-world performance.
Together, they represent just a few of the many individuals whose skills, collaboration, and commitment are turning bold vision into flight-ready reality.
Innovation through collaboration
From the lab to the skies, Climate Impulse is a collective mission. Our engineers, scientists, and innovators work side by side with Climate Impulse teams to:
