Who is treating/testing the drinking water provided to homes and businesses through the municipal water systems?

Each municipality tests and treats its own municipal drinking water supply to ensure it meets health and safety standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

For example, the Township of West Deptford tests and treats its municipal drinking water. For more information, we recommend calling the water department in your municipality.

Now that the comment period is over, can I still submit questions?

Yes. We encourage you to contact us with your questions by calling our Community Information Line 800-936-8159 or emailing us at contact_westdeptford@syensqo.com.

How long will the remediation take?

Remedial investigations and environmental remediation both take considerable time. Specialty Polymers has made significant progress in its investigation and implemented interim remediation steps for groundwater while the investigation continues. We do not yet have a defined timeframe for completion of the investigation or the final remediation.

What is being done to restore the municipal drinking water wells that are not operational due to contamination?

Specialty Polymers has provided funding to West Deptford, and will provide additional funding if needed, to enable the municipal water supply to meet PFAS drinking water standards. The municipality installs and maintains the treatment systems.

Specialty Polymers has also provided $101 million to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) under an agreement. From that fund, NJDEP may provide funding to support treatment systems as necessary on other municipal wells in the region.

Are there any plans to provide treatment in homes served by the public water system?

Water served to residences by municipal water systems is already tested and treated, if necessary, by the municipality. There are no plans to provide additional treatment to homes served by a municipal water system.

Did Syensqo purchase Solvay Specialty Polymers USA, LLC?

No, Syensqo originated from the split of Solvay Specialty Polymers’ former parent company into two independent companies in December 2023. The West Deptford facility became part of Syensqo with the creation of the two companies.
