Legacy of partnership

A partnership based on technology and adventure

Climate Impulse stems from the legacy of Bertrand Piccard's experiences: in 1999, he led the first non-stop round-the-world flight in a hot-air balloon, and in 2016, he flew around the world powered solely by solar energy aboard the Solar Impulse.

At the time, Solvay - from which Syensqo is derived - was the first technological partner to team up with Piccard to make his solar powered Solar Impulse aircraft and flight a reality. Nearly a century earlier, we had also supported his grandfather Auguste Piccard’s historic stratospheric flight, back in 1927!

Such a long-standing collaboration is no surprise. We have a 160-year legacy of reinventing progress, and just like Bertrand Piccard, we are explorers. Twenty years ago, we believed in his dream, we achieved it and, with Climate Impulse, we will do it again.

Solar Impulse successfully landed in Seville after 3 days over the Atlantic with Bertrand Piccard at the controls.
