Red Mud Flocculants

Red Mud Flocculant Chemicals

Flocculants have come a long way from their origins as starch-derived products for mining applications. Traditional starch flocculants presented a range of challenges for alumina refineries, such as slow settling rates and the need for high dosages to settle red mud efficiently. Therefore, the types of flocculants used in mining operations are essential.

Since the mid-1970s, Syensqo has been the proud pioneer of breakthrough flocculant chemicals for the alumina refining industry. Our high-performance technologies include Dry Polyacrylamide (DPAM), Emulsion PAM (EPAM) Chemistries and Hydroxamate PAM (HXPAM) to improve flocculation. These products are designed with a variety of molecular weights and anionic charges to fit different and changing operating conditions. Our technologies significantly improve mud separation efficiency with much faster settling rates, clearer overflows and denser underflows – resulting in increased throughput, product recovery and multiple operating benefits for the unique needs of the alumina refining industry. We supply the industry with a wide range of flocculant types and constantly improve our flocculant technologies to better meet the industry’s requirements for higher productivity and better sustainability profiles.

Industry-Proven Flocculant Solutions for Mining

Our CYFLOC®️ flocculants enable better liquid/solid separations, fast settling rates and clearer overflows at low dosages in applications such as thickeners and washers. These anionic, nonionic and cationic flocculants have been employed in alumina refineries worldwide where they have consistently delivered improved throughput and product recovery. Various CYFLOC®️ grades are available, including products based on polyacrylate and acrylamide/acrylic acid copolymer chemistry.
