Combat crud in solvent extraction circuits

Crud formation is a persistent challenge for solvent extraction operations. Crud occurs at the interface between the organic and aqueous phases. It features a mix of colloidal silica and high total suspended solids (TSS) within the pregnant leach solution (PLS). If left untreated, crud can build up in the circuit, leading to metal losses, poor phase separation, equipment fouling and increased maintenance costs. Crud formation is especially problematic in regions with agitated leaching processes, such as Africa, or sites with variable acid consumption.
