An Advanced Portfolio of High-Performance Polymers for Food Contact

Because cooking appliances sit on countertops and are clearly visible in kitchens, aesthetic performance is an essential consideration during the material selection process. In addition to visual benefits, many designers are searching for polymer-based solutions that can act as tough, lightweight and high-quality alternatives to metal, glass and lower-quality engineering polymers. Syensqo’s solutions for cooking appliances combine food contact approvals and outstanding performance for simplified design and processing.

  • Radel® PPSU - The premium sulfone polymer: tough, transparent and temperature resistant

Radel® PPSU combines excellent mechanical performance, outstanding chemical resistance and limited water absorption. Specialized food contact grades are ideal for appliances that come in contact with hot water, steam, oil or grease, such as fittings for beverage preparation, hot water boilers and transparent windows and hoods for fryers and rice cookers. Additionally, this polymer has been certified for use in applications that require maximum safety, including baby bottles and other infant care goods.

Key Features

  • Unique strength, stiffness, and durability
  • Excellent chemical and hydrolytic resistance
  • Long-term temperature resistance up to 190°C
  • Veradel® PESU - Sulfone polymer with high-heat transparency and chemical resistance

Veradel® PESU is a transparent sulfone polymer that combines high heat resistance with good chemical resistance, plus dimensional stability and inherent flame resistance, to help manufacturers enhance food contact applications. Veradel® PESU is an excellent polymer for food contact applications where transparency and strength are essential, including baby bottles, food trays, pipes, tubes, fittings and transparent hoods

Key Features

  • High heat resistance and effective hydrolytic stability
  • Resistance to stress-cracking
  • Excellent electrical properties
  • Amodel® PPA - An effective aromatic polyamide for when standard nylon is not enough

Amodel® PPA outperforms standard polyamides with higher end-use temperatures, lower moisture absorption, better dimensional stability and improved resistance to creep and fatigue. Amodel® PPA’s impressive durability makes it well-suited for food contact applications that are continually exposed to water and steam. Typical applications for this outstanding polyamide include valves for hot water tanks and boilers and chassis parts in fryers, ovens, coffee machines and other household appliances.

Key Features

  • High strength and stiffness
  • Excellent retention of mechanical properties in high humidity environments
  • Impressive resistance to a broad range of chemicals
  • Ixef® PARA - A high-performing polyamide with a unique combination of strength and beauty

Ixef® PARA products are particularly well-suited for food contact applications that require overall strength and a high-quality surface finish. High flow grades of Ixef® PARA can be used to produce very thin, rigid and dimensionally stable structural components that offer manufacturers improved design flexibility. This aromatic polyamide for food contact applications can be used for parts where aesthetics are essential, including levers, oven handles, coffee drip grids and external housing components.

Key Features

  • Very high strength and stiffness
  • Outstanding surface finish for advanced aesthetics
  • High flow for thin-walled, structural parts
  • Omnix® HPPA - An aromatic polyamide designed to fill cost-performance gaps

Omnix® HPPA offers a versatile solution that bridges the cost-performance gap between PA66 and higher-performing polyamides like Amodel® PPA. With good resistance properties and dimensional stability, this polymer offers an economical alternative to die-cast alloys and promotes cost-effective manufacturing. Typical food contact applications for Omnix® HPPA include appliance handle housings and other structural components.

Key Features

  • Bridges the gap between PA66 and PPA
  • Cost-efficient alternative to die-cast alloys
  • Higher heat resistance and dimensional stability compared to PA66
